A day out

I’m not sure if long distance ice skating is a thing in the USA, in fact, I can’t recall ever hearing about it while I was growing up.. That’s not saying much of course considering I grew up on Oahu, Hawaii and in Herlong, California. In any case here in Sweden in the winter people pull out their long distance skates and enjoy the miles and miles of frozen lakes and coast line.

Our little family decided to take a days trip down to the local lake, which is a few hundred meters from the house. We packed in the toddler, some sandwiches and hot cocoa. Was  nice day out.  Read More

Daily Pic: Sleeping among giants

Well, the title is a bit cliche but that’s alright.. I’m of course referring to Swedens tallest mountain in the background Kebnakaise. This panorama was taken on our first night after about a 20 kilometer hike. We went off trail to get some peace and quiet and found this excellent little site between two mountain streams, freezing cold to cross but well worth it.

This picture was taken along kingstrail in northern Sweden. It is three pictures stitched together using lightrooms new Panorama setting.

Daily pic: The baseball field

I love my hometown of Herlong, California. Though desolate and desperate for most people, this town has such hidden character and beauty. Anyway, I took this pic while cruising around a few summers ago. This was taken at Herlong High School and it’s hard to see it, but I’m standing on second base taking a picture on the baseball field, or atleast what used to be the baseball field.

Now I can’t say I was all pro and unlike most Americans you meet abroad: I was never offered a scholarship, or turned down a pro chance to pursue my love of music or whatever. I was actually pretty decent at baseball, however my interest in girls far outweighed any interest I had in sports and because of that I never played a full season of anything, well basketball perhaps.. but thats another story.  Read More

Daily pic: the duomid on water

I took this pic with my fuji x-t1 along my Southern Kingstrail adventure in late September. I had been hiking for around 13 hours at this point and just completely dead. On top of the long day of backpacking, the trail was completely drenched, and for the most part I was walking in about 10 inches of water the entire time. To say the least I was sick and tired of the wet trail, the problem was I couldn’t find a dry spot anywhere to put up my duomid and just sleep. Read More

Click on the above picture to order via Amazon

With regards to those of you who have pre-ordered the book: I had to cancel the pre-order process as Amazon would not update the book in time for you to get the finsihed copy. They still had a draft that needed a lot of extra work. (in my opinion) So I cancelled all pre-orders and refunded the money so that I could be sure that you guys would get the best version at the start of the release.

Praise and/or condemnation:

Learn from a Pro who has hiked the last quadrillon years facing the final frontier and lived off the land? Or learn from a guy just like you who manages to go light, kick ass and ultimately enjoys his time outdoors? Your choice, but Ken Shaw offers insight into the lightweight world that leaves you with the feeling of ” I can do that too!”
Carsten Jost (AT und PCT Thruhiker)

” I like it (this book), the disrespectful tone, the no-holds-barred non-balanced way of describing your experiences. Probably because it is just the opposite of my own writing. And a good complement. This book is intended to irritate the hell out of the reader.” Jörgen Johansson – http://www.fjaderlatt.se author Smarter backpacking
