Campground Showdown vol. 1 – Duomid Vs. MSR Elixir

Not as exciting as the title.. it’s late and I’m tired so don’t mind me too much. Just me and Mikael breaking down camp and getting ready to head off. My tent is the MLD Duomid his is the MSR elixir.

Not only does the Duomid look cooler, offer more space and just screams “legendary”.. It’s also a hell of a lot simpler than the MSR Elixir. Only a slightly biased opinion..

Going Lighter

Why lighter backpacking?

I touch up on this a bit in my about section on this website, and I get the question quite a bit. Why should one go light? I think it’s pretty obvious really but I will try and break it down a bit. I will tell my story first and my move to the light side. It was about 5 years ago now when I made my first solo long distance hike – before that I had done a lot car camping and overnight stays, but never a long distance hike. Powermonkey extreme and solarmonkey review

After the last week of hiking I decided to do a quick review on a very important piece of gear for somebody like me who brings all kinds of photo and video equipment on a longer hiking trip – that is of course the battery power pack and solar charger. GPS Tracking on Iphone in airplane mode..

You read it correctly.. GPS Tracking on Iphone in airplane mode.. This last week I spent up in the swedish national park Sarek – above the artic circle hiking and just having a brilliant time in the wild. I usually track everything using my Iphone 5s and Viewranger app. Normally after a full day of tracking the battery is at around 40% – well in airplane mode tracking I was able to track and use my iphone as my gps maps for 4 days before I had to recharge. as I say in the video Read More

Going Lighter

Going lighter – The first step

The first step:

I just got back from a week long hike in the Swedish mountains above the artic circle with a friend from Denmark. My friend Mike is nowhere near an ultralight hiker – or even a lightweight hiker for that matter; his bag alone weighs 3.6 kilos his tent closer to 2.5. Through no fault of his own of course, he just didn’t know any better. How could he? he was raised with the scouts and for him anything that was green and said fjällräven was of course the best way to go. Read More

Gear list and packing video – Fjällräven classic 2015

Here is my complete gear list for the 2015 fjällräven classic in sarek national park – this is a 110 kilometer walk along the kings trail in northern Sweden. My group leaves the 7th of august and I am expected to be away for four to five days. I am packing warm and dry as the climate change has really been affecting the area more than usual this year as it’s been near freezing every night and constantly raining; Read More
